Colombia 2023
At Villa Esperanza, an outdoor environment was created to support confidence, independence, community and the transition towards a self-determined life.
Preparing for an independent life
From 30 January to 19 February 2023, our team worked at Villa Esperanza in Jamundí near Cali. The home supports around 45 girls aged seven to 17, many of whom come from difficult family backgrounds.
Together with an experiential educator, we developed areas for retreat and community, cooking and learning, nature, movement and teamwork. The aim was to create practical settings in which communication, responsibility, confidence and independence can be experienced in everyday life.
A landscape that supports educational work
Lounging and workshop areas, planting and food production, climbing and movement elements provide different opportunities for learning and development. The landscape is not intended to replace educational work, but to give the team at Villa Esperanza additional spaces and tools that can be used over the long term.
